Drums of my past

I am visiting a Calgary Public Library location, my first opportunity to spend some time on the Internet. I have been logging information on paper since the trip began, but now is not the time for editing and publishing this data to the world. This visit, though almost over was spent typing up poems written by my father Hugh MacDonald. I am having a custom drum set built by drum builder Amiel Leblanc of East Coast Drumcraft and Funkfactory Drums. Over the last several months, Amiel and I have been in discussion trying to design the perfect kit for me. The technical aspects of selecting the type of shell, rim, bearing edge, hardware, and sizes, were all quite easily decided upon, but the visual aspect had me stumped. I wanted these drums to represent something special to me.
One evening I was in my fathers office using his computer when I began rummaging through his books in search of a dictionary. His crowded shelves inspire exploration. In the midst of my reconnaissance mission, I stumbled across his shelf of published works. The site of their cover designs reminded me of my task of finding a suitable look for my drums. I began reading his work, and found poems he had written about my life. The stories reminded me of times that I had almost forgotten. This certainly represented something special to me.

The decision was made. Today I finally typed and sent these poems to Amiel for use on the drums. My intention is for my drums to have white shells that feature these poems.

Whenever available, I will post pictures of the drums.
